Ward Boy at Shamli Govt Hospital Arrested for Stealing Gold Earrings from Accident Victim’s Body

Muzaffarnagar | April 21, 2025: A ward boy at the Shamli district hospital has been arrested for allegedly stealing gold earrings from the body of a road accident victim, police confirmed on Sunday.
The victim, Shweta (26), was brought to the hospital after a fatal road accident. As police began sealing the body in the emergency ward, the gold earrings were discovered missing. Her family immediately lodged a complaint.
“CCTV footage showed ward boy Vijay stealing the earrings,” said Dr. Kishor Ahuja, Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of the hospital.
A video of the theft has also surfaced on social media, further inflaming public outrage. The victim’s husband, Sachin Kumar, and other family members staged a protest at the hospital, demanding justice.
Vijay, who had initially fled the scene, was tracked down and arrested. The stolen earrings were recovered from his possession. A formal FIR has been registered, and an inquiry is underway, said Shamli Circle Officer Amardeep Morye.
“This is a serious breach of public trust in the healthcare system. We’re taking strict legal action,” officials confirmed.
