Telangana High Court Rejects Shaadi.com Plea in Matrimonial Fraud Case

The Telangana High Court on April 25 rejected a plea filed by Shaadi.com seeking exemption from investigation in a matrimonial fraud case. The court directed that the director and employees of the platform must cooperate and appear before the investigating authorities. The case involves allegations of scams perpetrated through fake profiles created on the matrimonial site. Petitioners had argued that the platform was merely an intermediary and not liable for users’ actions. However, the court observed that platforms must exercise due diligence in preventing such frauds. The ruling is considered a significant step in regulating online matrimonial services. Police have been investigating complaints filed by multiple victims from Hyderabad. Further hearings in the matter are scheduled for next month. Legal experts welcomed the court’s decision to ensure platform accountability. Authorities confirmed that formal notices would be issued to the concerned officials.
