Fake Cardiologist at Mission Hospital Under NHRC Probe After 7 Deaths in Madhya Pradesh

Damoh, Madhya Pradesh: A horrifying case of medical fraud has come to light in Madhya Pradesh after seven patients died under the care of a fake cardiologist at the Mission Hospital in Damoh. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has launched a full-fledged investigation, with its team visiting the district from April 7 to 9.
The impersonator, identified as Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, falsely claimed to be Dr. N John Camm, allegedly impersonating the name of a respected UK-based cardiologistProfessor John Camm, to mislead patients and the hospital.
Yadav reportedly joined Mission Hospital in January 2024 and carried out multiple unauthorized heart surgeries before fleeing the district in February. Several families have since accused the hospital and Yadav of negligence, forgery, and financial exploitation.

Taking cognizance of the gravity of the case, NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo announced a probe and appealed to victims and witnesses to come forward with information. He labeled the case “extremely serious” and stressed the need for full accountability.
The hospital, which is registered under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, may have also misused government funds, adding another layer of concern.

Multiple families have now spoken out:

  • Asharam Patel’s family says they were pressured into paying ₹50,000 for an emergency procedure without access to records.
  • Nabi Khan’s mother died during surgery; the hospital allegedly refused to release her postmortem or treatment details.
  • Complaints mention coercion, lack of transparency, and unethical medical conduct.

Yet, despite growing evidence, no FIR has been filed as of now.

Mission Hospital’s manager Pushpa Khare confirmed that an internal probe is in progress. District Collector Sudhir Kochar stated that they are reviewing hiring protocols and how the hospital allowed such critical surgeries without verification.
Adding to the concern, reports indicate that similar impersonation complaints were previously filed against Yadav in Telangana, and Professor John Camm himself had warned about identity misuse as far back as 2019.
:drawing_pin: A Pattern of Controversy
This isn’t the first scandal for Mission Hospital. In 2022, its owner, Dr. Ajai Lall, was charged with illegal conversions and child trafficking, though acquitted in 2024. This latest case has renewed public calls for strict regulation of healthcare facilities—especially those serving rural or marginalized communities.
As the NHRC investigation progresses, families continue to seek justice, transparency, and medical accountability.
