Motherhood Against All Odds: Injured Dog Fights Off Leopard, Returns to Feed Her Puppies in Mumbai

Mumbai: In a heart-rending act of bravery and maternal instinct, a mother dog now named Shakti survived a leopard attack in Mumbai’s Aarey Colony and returned — bloodied and wounded — to feed her 10 puppies.
The injured dog leopard attack Mumbai story was caught on CCTV in Goregaon, on the edge of Sanjay Gandhi National Park, an area where wildlife and urban life often intersect. The video showed the leopard grabbing the dog and disappearing into the dark forest.
Miraculously, Shakti escaped. Despite a severe neck wound and a punctured food pipe, she made her way back to her puppies, prioritizing their survival over her pain.
Medical Miracle & Community Support
Local NGO World For All stepped in after several clinics reportedly refused treatment. They transported Shakti to Top Dogs Pet Clinic in Andheri West, where vets performed emergency surgery to repair her perforated oesophagus.

“She couldn’t even drink water — it would spill out through the wound. But she never stopped trying to reach her babies,” the NGO shared on Instagram.

Thanks to the efforts of Dr. Barry KalsyDr. Akshata GulvadyDr. Kaavya Sudhakar, and supervising vet Dr. Makarand Chousalkar, Shakti is now stable and recovering.
 Aarey Residents Step Up
As Shakti heals, her 10 puppies are being cared for by local tribal residents of Aarey Colony, showcasing the crucial role communities play in protecting animals in conflict zones.
 Why This Matters
The story of the injured dog leopard attack in Mumbai has gone viral, not just because of the dramatic footage, but because it serves as a stunning symbol of resilience and maternal love. It also raises vital questions about animal rescue infrastructure, urban-wildlife conflict, and the need for empathy toward stray animals.

“Shakti didn’t give up. And neither will we,” said World For All, continuing their advocacy for animal welfare.
