Dalit Man Stripped, Assaulted in Rajasthan; FIR Filed After 8-Day Delay Amid Outrage

Sikar, Rajasthan | April 21, 2025: A Dalit youth in Rajasthan’s Sikar district was allegedly stripped, beaten, sexually assaulted, and urinated upon by two upper caste men during a wedding celebration on April 8. Shockingly, the FIR was registered only on April 16, prompting outrage from political leaders and activists.

According to the police complaint, the victim was enjoying a wedding procession when the accused lured him away under the pretext of work, took him to a secluded location, hurled casteist slurs, and brutally assaulted him, threatening to harm his father who works abroad.

“The victim’s medical examination has been completed, and his statement has been recorded,” confirmed DSP Arvind Kumar.

The delayed registration of the FIR has raised serious questions about police responsiveness and caste-based discrimination in rural Rajasthan.

Former CM Ashok Gehlot condemned the attack, saying,

“The trauma was so severe that the victim couldn’t file a complaint for eight days. The delay is unacceptable.”

Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, himself a Dalit, called the act “not a movie scene, but a shameful reality.” He also recalled facing caste-based humiliation earlier this month when former BJP MLA Gyandev Ahuja performed a “purification” ritual with gangajal after Jully visited a Ram temple in Alwar on Ram Navami.

“This is Rajasthan today—a Dalit youth tortured, a Dalit leader shamed in a temple. These are not isolated cases,” Jully stated.

Investigations in the Sikar case are ongoing. The accused have not yet been arrested at the time of reporting.
