Andhra Pradesh: Two Boys Killed by Lightning While Playing Cricket in Prakasam District
Prakasam | April 21, 2025: In a tragic turn of events, two teenage boys, identified as Akash (18) and Sunny (17), were killed by a lightning strike while playing cricket in Pedda Obinenipalle village, Prakasam district, on Sunday evening.
According to local police, the incident occurred when around 20 students were playing cricket in an open field. As it began to rain, the two boys took shelter under a tree, which was then struck by lightning.
“The lightning hit them while they were under the tree. One farmer nearby was also injured,” said a police official.
The injured farmer is currently receiving medical treatment. The police have registered a case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and are conducting further investigation.
This incident once again raises awareness about the dangers of lightning during thunderstorms, particularly in open rural areas.
