Over 9,000 HIV Cases Detected in Telangana in 2024, Says State Health Report

A state-wide HIV screening campaign conducted across Telangana in 2024 identified 9,027 new HIV-positive cases, according to the health department’s official annual report.
The testing covered a total of 19.02 lakh people, including high-risk categories, hospital patients, pregnant women, and blood donors. Hyderabad, Khammam, and Warangal districts recorded the highest numbers.
Officials stated that while the overall prevalence has remained stable, the emergence of new cases indicates the need for intensified awareness campaigns and access to antiretroviral therapy.
The state has 53 Integrated Counselling and Testing Centres (ICTCs) and 30 Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART) centers, which have been asked to prepare for additional load.
NGOs have urged for better education programs targeting youth and migrant populations, who continue to remain vulnerable.
