Hyderabad Metro Rail Records Rs 625 Crore Loss in FY 2024-25

The Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) announced a loss of Rs 625 crore for the financial year 2024-25. According to official reports, the metro witnessed significantly low ridership, affecting its revenue targets. Operational costs and loan repayments further worsened the financial situation. HMRL officials stated that passenger numbers dipped in early 2025 due to increased private transport use. Efforts to introduce new promotional schemes are underway to revive public interest. The Nagole-Miyapur and LB Nagar routes reportedly bore the maximum financial burden. Officials plan to seek additional support from the Telangana government. The HMRL board is scheduled to meet next month to discuss recovery strategies. Experts suggest fare rationalisation and better last-mile connectivity could help. A detailed financial restructuring plan is expected to be announced by June 2025.
