Villagers Block Road in Mahabubabad Over Severe Drinking Water Shortage

Protests Erupt as Water Scarcity Grips Mahabubabad

Mahabubabad, Telangana | April 22, 2025:
Angry residents of a village in Mahabubabad district staged a roadblock protest on Tuesday over a persistent drinking water crisis, blaming local gram panchayat and mandal authorities for negligence.

Over 100 villagers, including women and children, blocked the main road in Chinthalapalem mandal, demanding immediate tanker supply and a permanent solution to the unrelenting summer water shortage.

Many alleged that officials had ignored repeated complaints over the past two weeks, forcing villagers to walk over 3 km to fetch water from dried borewells and tanks.

The protest, which lasted for over four hours, disrupted vehicular traffic on the Kodad-Huzurnagar route. Police intervened and assured the villagers that emergency tankers would be sent.

Officials from the Rural Water Supply (RWS) department visited the village post-protest and promised to deploy engineers to inspect broken pipelines and restore supply.
