Hyderabad airport receives bomb threat e-mail

Hyderabad, May 10, 2025 — Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad was placed on high alert on Friday following a bomb threat received via email. The message, sent to the airport’s administrative wing, warned of sleeper cells poised to carry out an explosion. Authorities, including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and local police, conducted thorough searches but found no suspicious items.

The email, reportedly from an unidentified source, claimed that the airport would be targeted imminently. In response, security personnel swiftly initiated anti-sabotage operations, deploying sniffer dogs and bomb disposal squads to scan the premises. Despite the nature of the threat, airport operations continued uninterrupted, with flights remaining on schedule and no panic reported among passengers.

Officials confirmed that while the email did not specify the planting of any explosive device, all necessary precautions were enforced. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the email and assess its credibility.

This incident comes amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, following India’s recent military action, Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror camps across the border in retaliation for the deadly Pahalgam terror attack last month. As a precautionary measure, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced the temporary closure of 24 airports across northern and western India until May 15.

Passengers traveling through RGIA are advised to arrive early and cooperate with enhanced security protocols. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure the safety of all travelers and staff.
