Shortly after PM Modi’s address, suspected drones sighted in J&K, Punjab

In a sudden escalation of tension along India’s northern frontier, suspected drones were reportedly sighted across multiple sensitive locations in Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab just minutes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national address on Monday evening.

Local sources confirmed that the first drone was detected near the Samba sector in Jammu, closely followed by another sighting in Gurdaspur, Punjab. Border Security Force (BSF) troops immediately went on high alert and initiated counter-surveillance protocols.

The Prime Minister’s speech, which focused on national unity and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, concluded barely 15 minutes before the first alert was raised. This timing has fueled speculation about the motive behind the drone activity.

Security agencies suspect the drones may have been launched from across the border with Pakistan, given the proximity and past patterns of such intrusions. Intelligence officials are currently analyzing radar data and CCTV footage to verify flight paths and potential payloads.

The Indian Army and BSF conducted coordinated combing operations late into the night but found no debris or dropped materials, suggesting a potential reconnaissance mission rather than a payload drop.

Jammu & Kashmir Police confirmed the sightings and stated that investigations are underway in coordination with central intelligence agencies.

This marks the third such incident in the last two weeks, but the link with PM Modi’s speech has added a politically sensitive dimension to the security breach.

While the Prime Minister did not mention Pakistan directly in his address, the emphasis on safeguarding national borders has drawn attention in light of the latest activity.

Former military officials warn that drone-based surveillance and infiltration attempts are becoming more frequent and sophisticated.

Punjab Chief Minister also held an emergency meeting with top security officers and urged the Centre to deploy anti-drone technology on a larger scale.

This incident comes amid a broader wave of cross-border tensions, with ceasefire violations reported last week along the Line of Control.

As of now, no group has claimed responsibility, and defense officials have not confirmed the origin of the drones.

With elections approaching and national security in sharp focus, these sightings are bound to escalate political debate and strategic recalibration.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is expected to issue a detailed statement by evening.
