Turkey ready to support Russia-Ukraine peace talks at every step: Erdogan

Ankara – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to facilitating peace between Russia and Ukraine, stating that his country is ready to support peace talks “at every step.” Speaking at a recent press conference in Ankara, Erdogan emphasized Turkey’s ongoing role as a mediator and its readiness to contribute to diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict.
“Turkey will continue to stand by diplomacy and peace,” Erdogan said. “We are prepared to assist in every phase of the negotiations and provide any platform needed for constructive dialogue.”
The Turkish president noted that his country maintains open channels with both Moscow and Kyiv, leveraging its unique geopolitical position and long-standing relationships with both sides to help de-escalate tensions.
Turkey previously hosted Russia-Ukraine negotiations in Istanbul in 2022, which were viewed as a promising but ultimately short-lived breakthrough. Despite challenges since then, Erdogan believes that renewed efforts, supported by neutral facilitators, can reignite hope for a sustainable resolution.
Erdogan also highlighted the humanitarian impact of the war, calling for an immediate end to hostilities and increased international support for civilians affected by the conflict.
“We cannot remain indifferent to the suffering on both sides. Turkey’s stance is clear — we will continue to advocate for peace, stability, and territorial integrity,” he added.
International observers have praised Turkey’s diplomatic posture, though challenges remain in bringing both parties back to the negotiation table.
Turkey’s engagement is seen as vital due to its NATO membership and regional influence, which grants Ankara a unique voice in mediating high-stakes international disputes.
Erdogan’s statements come at a time when global leaders are seeking new avenues to revive peace efforts, amid mounting casualties and economic strain caused by the prolonged war.
As the conflict stretches into another year, Turkey’s renewed offer signals a continued push for peaceful resolution in one of Europe’s most pressing crises.
