India makes significant pledges at UN peacekeeping Ministerial in Berlin

India has reaffirmed its commitment to United Nations peacekeeping by making significant pledges at the 2025 Peacekeeping Ministerial held in Berlin. The two-day high-level meeting, hosted by Germany, focused on enhancing the effectiveness and adaptability of peace operations in the face of evolving global challenges.
As one of the largest troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping missions, India pledged a Quick Reaction Force company, an armed police or mixed armed police unit, a women-led Formed Police Unit, a counter-improvised explosive devices/explosive ordnance disposal unit, a K-9 unit, and a SWAT police unit. These contributions aim to bolster the capacity of UN missions to respond swiftly and effectively to emerging threats.
The Berlin Ministerial saw over 130 member states and international partners come together to reaffirm their support for UN peacekeeping. A total of 74 member states made pledges, including 53 countries committing uniformed capabilities such as military and police units, and 59 countries offering specialized training in areas like protection of civilians and gender-sensitive peacekeeping.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized the need for peacekeeping operations to adapt to contemporary challenges, including complex conflicts, terrorism, and climate-induced instability. He highlighted that peacekeepers often make the difference between life and death in conflict zones and called for sustained financial support from member states to maintain the effectiveness of these missions.
Germany, as the host nation, pledged €82 million to UN peacekeeping efforts and announced commitments in training, renewable energy solutions, and drone technology to enhance mission capabilities. The conference underscored the importance of international cooperation and innovation in strengthening UN peacekeeping operations.
India’s pledges at the Berlin Ministerial underscore its ongoing support for UN peacekeeping and its role in promoting global peace and security. By providing specialized units and capabilities, India contributes to the UN’s efforts to address the complex and evolving nature of global conflicts.
