FIR registered against MP minister over remarks on Col Qureshi

In a significant legal development, an FIR has been registered against Madhya Pradesh Tribal Affairs Minister Vijay Shah following his controversial remarks about Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, a senior officer involved in Operation Sindoor. The FIR was filed in compliance with a directive from the Madhya Pradesh High Court, which had taken suo motu cognizance of Shah’s statements
During a public event in Indore district, Shah reportedly referred to Colonel Qureshi as a “sister of terrorists,” a comment that sparked widespread outrage. The High Court condemned the remarks as “gutter language” and ordered the state police to register an FIR under sections of the Indian Penal Code related to endangering national unity and promoting enmity between different groups. Following the court’s intervention, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav instructed the Director General of Police to take immediate action. The FIR was subsequently lodged at Manpur police station in Indore. Minister Shah issued a public apology, expressing regret for his remarks and stating that he respects Colonel Qureshi and the armed forces. He emphasized that his intention was never to cause offense and that he holds Colonel Qureshi in high regard.
The incident has led to political repercussions, with opposition parties demanding Shah’s resignation and the BJP leadership taking swift action. National BJP President JP Nadda has requested a full report on the matter and summoned Shah for clarification.
