Deadly Storm Rips Through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Flattens Homes and Claims Lives

A violent windstorm swept across Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province late Sunday, killing at least three people and injuring over a dozen. The powerful gusts and rains lashed Peshawar, Nowshera, and Charsadda, uprooting trees, toppling electric poles, and damaging dozens of homes.
Two men lost their lives in Peshawar’s main vegetable market after a massive tree collapsed during peak hours. In another tragic case, a six-year-old child died in Rano Garhi when a wall gave way and crushed him during the storm’s peak intensity.
Rescue teams responded to multiple calls involving collapsed roofs and walls, especially in low-lying and unplanned residential areas. Emergency workers remained on site throughout the night, assisting in evacuations, clearing debris, and restoring disrupted power lines.
Officials from the district administration visited the worst-hit locations and assured immediate relief measures. Compensation for the deceased and financial support for reconstruction efforts are being arranged. Authorities have also advised citizens to remain indoors during such weather spells and to report unstable structures. The storm, which struck unexpectedly, has once again raised red flags over disaster preparedness and the growing frequency of severe weather events in Pakistan’s northwest. Meteorological officials have warned that more turbulent weather may follow in the pre-monsoon season
