Heavy rains with strong winds lash Hyderabad

Hyderabad experienced a severe weather event on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, as heavy rains accompanied by strong winds disrupted daily life across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a Red Alert, advising residents to remain indoors due to the intensity of the weather.
Intense rainfall was reported in several areas, including Saroornagar, Dilsukhnagar, Malakpet, Nampally, Charminar, Koti, Abids, Ramanthapur, Mehdipatnam, and Amberpet. The downpours led to waterlogging on roads, causing significant traffic delays and posing risks to commuters.
The IMD attributed the adverse weather to a developing low-pressure system over the east-central Arabian Sea, which intensified into Cyclone Shakti. This system brought widespread thunderstorms and gusty winds to Telangana and neighboring regions .
In response to the situation, the Telangana government activated emergency protocols. The Chief Minister directed district collectors to safeguard paddy stocks from water damage and ensure the swift transfer of grains to rice mills. Additionally, the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HYDRAA) coordinated with various agencies to address waterlogging and maintain smooth traffic flow
Residents are urged to stay updated with weather advisories and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of inclement weather.
