IMD Hyderabad issues 4-day heavy rains alert ahead of monsoon onset

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad has issued a four-day heavy rain alert for Telangana, including Hyderabad, from May 26 to May 29, 2025. This warning comes as the southwest monsoon advances earlier than usual, marking the earliest onset in 16 years .
On May 24, the monsoon reached Kerala, eight days ahead of its typical schedule. Subsequently, it progressed into parts of Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, and the northeastern states . IMD forecasts indicate that conditions are favorable for further advancement into Telangana within the next 48 hours .
In response to the anticipated weather conditions, IMD Hyderabad has issued a yellow alert for multiple districts, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls . Residents are advised to exercise caution, as gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h are expected .
