India Launches ‘Operation Sindoor’ After Pahalgam Terror Attack, Tensions EscalateAcross LoC

In a dramatic turn of events, India has launched a full-scale military retaliation named
“Operation Sindoor” following the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on
April 22. The attack, which claimed 27 civilian lives, has triggered one of the fiercest
escalations between India and Pakistan in recent years, raising regional and international
alarms.
According to official sources, the attack was carried out by The Resistance Front (TRF), a
Pakistan-based militant outfit. In response, India conducted precision strikes across the Line
of Control (LoC), targeting terror launchpads and command centers in Pakistan-occupied
territories. The strikes began on May 5 and continued until May 10, utilizing drone swarms,
artillery, and airpower.
The Indian Army confirmed that over 14 strategic targets were neutralized in Pakistan-
administered regions, including training camps linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-
Mohammed. Pakistan retaliated with heavy shelling in Baramulla, Rajouri, and Poonch,
resulting in civilian casualties on both sides. A temporary ceasefire, mediated by the U.S.,
was declared on May 10 but remains shaky.
This conflict comes against a backdrop of increasing tensions in the valley and renewed
cross-border infiltration attempts. Pahalgam has historically been a sensitive area, especially
during the annual Amarnath Yatra, and this year’s attack is being seen as a direct threat to
religious harmony and national security.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing a high-level security meet, stated: “India will not
tolerate bloodshed on its soil. Our enemies will pay the price.” Defence Minister Rajnath
Singh also praised the indigenous weapons used, reinforcing the government’s push for ‘Make
in India’ in defence manufacturing.
While a temporary ceasefire is in effect, ground reports suggest minor violations continue.
International observers have called for restraint and urged both nations to return to the
negotiation table. However, domestic sentiment in India remains strongly in favor of decisive
action.
India’s strategic posture has shifted visibly with Operation Sindoor, signaling a zero-
tolerance stance on cross-border terrorism. The situation remains fluid, and further
developments are expected in the coming days
