Three Arrested in Hyderabad for Operating Online IPL Betting Racket

Hyderabad: In a coordinated operation, Hyderabad police busted an online cricket betting racket and arrested three individuals allegedly involved in illegal betting activities linked to the ongoing IPL 2025 season.

The operation was conducted jointly by the Commissioner’s Task Force (South-East Zone) and the Narayanguda Police, who seized ₹1.32 lakh in cash and three mobile phones from the accused during the raid.

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Guruvinder Singh Saluja (41), alias Gourav – the main bookie
  • Sardar Jasvinder Singh, alias Jessy/Likki – sub-bookie
  • Koppula Karthik (28) – punter and end-user in the betting ring

Modus Operandi Uncovered

Police investigation revealed that the accused were operating an online betting network using credentials obtained from two primary bookies—Vikas alias Vicky from Nanded, Maharashtra, and Mukesh from Kachiguda, Hyderabad. These credentials were used to provide access to an online betting portal, where punters could place bets on IPL matches.

The trio allegedly earned commissions by distributing logins and facilitating real-time betting through illegal platforms. The operation, police noted, was in clear violation of the Telangana Gaming Act, which prohibits such activities.

Authorities have initiated further inquiries to trace the wider network of bookmakers involved and to determine whether similar betting syndicates are active elsewhere in the city.

Police reiterated that strict action would be taken against those engaging in or promoting illegal betting, especially during major sporting events.
