Israeli PM Netanyahu reaffirms to fully control Gaza

JERUSALEM — In a decisive statement on May 21, 2025, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to maintaining full security control over the Gaza Strip following the conclusion of its current military offensive, Operation Gideon’s Chariots.

During a rare press conference, Netanyahu outlined stringent conditions for ending the conflict, emphasizing that the war would persist until Hamas is disarmed, its leadership removed, and all Israeli hostages returned. He also indicated openness to a temporary ceasefire for hostage exchanges, contingent upon the fulfillment of these conditions.

The Israeli leader’s remarks come amid escalating international concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where over 53,000 Palestinians have been killed since the conflict began in October 2023. Despite the lifting of an 11-week blockade, aid distribution remains severely limited due to security challenges.

Netanyahu’s government has proposed a phased humanitarian plan in collaboration with U.S. partners, involving the entry of basic food supplies, establishment of distribution points managed by American companies, and creation of designated civilian evacuation zones. However, international aid organizations have criticized the plan as insufficient, warning of impending famine and inadequate access to essential services.

The Israeli prime minister also addressed speculation regarding his relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump, dismissing concerns of a rift and reaffirming strong bilateral ties. Netanyahu’s administration has expressed support for Trump’s controversial proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza, a plan that has faced widespread international criticism.

As the conflict continues, the international community remains divided, with some nations calling for an immediate ceasefire and others supporting Israel’s right to self-defense. The situation remains fluid, with diplomatic efforts ongoing to address both the humanitarian crisis and the broader geopolitical implications.
