End of Dhoni Era?
MS Dhoni remained unbeaten on 30 during Chennai Super Kings’ chase of 184 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, but the home side ultimately fell short by 25 runs.
His place in the CSK playing XI has once again come under scrutiny after he couldn’t steer the team to victory in their IPL 2025 clash against Delhi Capitals. While his knock showed glimpses of his trademark calmness, it wasn’t enough to stop CSK from suffering their third straight loss this season — and second consecutive defeat at home.
Batting at No. 7 with CSK struggling at 74 for five, Dhoni faced an uphill task. With 110 runs needed off 56 balls, he partnered with Vijay Shankar — who scored a fighting fifty — and the duo added 84 runs for the sixth wicket. Despite the fightback, Chennai’s chase lost steam, failing once again to chase down a 180-plus target.
The defeat has reignited debate around Dhoni’s future, with fans and experts questioning his role in the team. Former India batter Wasim Jaffer, speaking on ESPNcricinfo, suggested it might be time for Dhoni to step aside if he’s no longer leading the team, saying, “To watch him (bat) like this hurts a little.”
Is this the end of the Dhoni era? The calls for change are only getting louder.
