Father kills newborn daughter in Hyderabad

In a deeply disturbing incident from Hyderabad, a man allegedly killed his newborn daughter merely hours after her birth. The crime has triggered widespread anger and raised serious questions about gender-based violence and societal mindsets.
The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday in the city’s Malkajgiri area. According to police reports, the accused, identified as 28-year-old Ramesh (name changed), was reportedly unhappy with the birth of a girl child.
The mother, still recovering from childbirth at home, was left shocked when she discovered that her daughter was missing. A few hours later, the infant’s body was found near a construction site not far from their house.
Local residents alerted the police, who soon launched an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby buildings and questioning of the family led to the father’s arrest. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the crime, citing “family pressure” and “financial burden” as motives.
Police have registered a case under IPC Sections 302 (murder) and relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act. The infant’s body has been sent for postmortem, and further investigation is ongoing.
This heart-wrenching case highlights the grim reality of gender bias still prevalent in some parts of India. Despite strict laws and growing awareness, female infanticide remains a concern in several communities.
Child rights activists have demanded swift justice and harsher punishments for such crimes. “This isn’t just a crime against a baby—it’s a crime against humanity,” said one activist.
The Telangana State Women’s Commission has taken suo moto notice and is expected to seek a detailed report from police authorities.
As the nation mourns the senseless death of a newborn, many are questioning how such brutality can still exist in a supposedly progressive society.
