Hyderabad’s Chenoy Trade Centre (CTC) Falls from Tech Glory to Scam Hub, Say Angry Customers

Hyderabad – Once celebrated as the go-to destination for tech enthusiasts in the early 2000s, Chenoy Trade Centre (CTC) in Secunderabad is now facing serious allegations of fraud, poor safety, and deteriorating infrastructure. What was once a symbol of Hyderabad’s IT boom is now being called a “scam zone” and “death trap” by frustrated visitors.
A widely circulated Reddit post blew the lid off the grim reality, where a user shared that they were charged ₹600 without consent just for a laptop inspection. The post triggered an avalanche of similar experiences, shining a harsh spotlight on alleged unethical practices across CTC.
From Repairs to Rip-Offs
One of the most shocking stories involved ARN Computers, where a customer claimed they paid ₹2,500 in advance for a motherboard. The repair shop then declared the board “damaged” and demanded an additional ₹7,000 — leaving the customer stranded and betrayed.
Other complaints flooded in:
- A refurbished PC passed off as brand new
- A 10-year-old hard drive repackaged and sold at full price
- And most disturbingly, a parking dispute that escalated into violence when a parking attendant allegedly slashed a car tyre over an inflated, undocumented charge of ₹120
Cramped, Unsafe, and Crumbling
Beyond financial scams, the physical condition of CTC has become a major concern. Users report:
- Cramped corridors with zero fire safety compliance
- Elevators operated manually with no emergency systems
- Dilapidated shop exteriors and illegal structures falling apart
- A “parking mafia” operating unchecked, often extorting visitors with fake fees
Despite repeated warnings and fines from authorities, vendors and private operators continue business as usual, undermining consumer trust and safety.
Future City vs. Forgotten CTC
As Hyderabad touts its “Future City” initiative with smart infrastructure and digital transformation zones, CTC looks like a forgotten relic of the past — riddled with decay and alleged corruption.
“CTC is stuck in the 90s — only now it’s not innovation but intimidation,” quipped a Reddit user. “Unless there’s a regulatory crackdown and proper renovation, this place will fade out of relevance completely.”
With e-commerce platforms offering transparency, return policies, and verified products, many Hyderabadis are now choosing to skip CTC altogether.
Kaizer Take: CTC was once where Hyderabad got its tech wings. Today, it’s a case study in how neglect and greed can ruin a legacy market. With mounting complaints, the question now is — will the authorities act, or will CTC be allowed to rot beyond redemption?
