cyclonic circulations likely to usher in monsoon in Kolkata within 3 days, says Met; coastal Bengal braces for heavy rain: KOLKATA:
Two cyclonic circulations are set to bring showers to Bengal’s coastal districts on
Monday, followed by widespread rain across south Bengal and Kolkata, likely ushering
in the monsoon within the next three days, the Met office said on Sunday.
While heavy rain could be restricted to East Midnapore and South 24 Parganas on
Monday, with occasional showers in Kolkata and its adjoining areas, most parts of
south Bengal and Kolkata are set to be drenched from Tuesday. “If the rain continues
due to the cyclonic circulations, monsoon currents should reach south Bengal within
three days,” said Somenath Dutta, deputy director general of the Regional
Meteorological Centre (RMC).
