20-year-old biomedical student raped by friend in Hyderabad

Hyderabad – In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old biomedical student was allegedly raped by her male friend in Hyderabad, triggering widespread outrage and demands for justice.
According to police reports, the accused lured the victim to a private apartment in the Banjara Hills area under the pretext of spending time together. The two were reportedly friends for the past several months through social media.
Once inside the flat, the accused allegedly forced himself on the student despite her repeated refusals. The victim later approached the police and filed a complaint, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR).
The accused, a 23-year-old man, is currently absconding. Police teams have been deployed to trace and arrest him based on mobile and CCTV data.
The student was sent for medical examination, and her statement was recorded under Section 164 of the CrPC before a magistrate. Police have booked the case under IPC Section 376 (rape).
Family members of the victim expressed shock and demanded the harshest punishment for the accused, stating that he had betrayed their trust.
Women’s rights organizations have condemned the incident and are planning protests, urging authorities to ensure swift justice.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner stated that the case will be investigated thoroughly and sensitively. “We are treating the case with utmost priority,” he assured.
This case has once again highlighted the growing concerns over women’s safety in urban areas, especially in situations involving known acquaintances.
Experts say this reflects the urgent need for awareness around consent and responsible social interactions among youth.
As the investigation progresses, the city remains tense, and public discourse continues around the need for stronger deterrents against sexual violence.
