Telangana CM to launch Rs 12,600 cr solar agri scheme for tribals

Hyderabad, May 9, 2025 — In a significant move aimed at transforming the agricultural landscape for tribal communities in Telangana, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) is set to launch a ₹12,600 crore solar agriculture scheme designed to empower tribal farmers. This ambitious initiative will provide a sustainable solution for agricultural challenges faced by the tribal population, integrating solar power with farming practices.

The scheme aims to install solar panels on agricultural lands, providing farmers with affordable and eco-friendly energy to power irrigation systems, cold storage, and other essential farming infrastructure. By harnessing solar energy, the state government plans to reduce dependency on traditional power sources, ultimately lowering operational costs for farmers.

Speaking about the scheme, KCR highlighted the importance of renewable energy in improving the livelihoods of tribal farmers. “This initiative will not only enhance agricultural productivity but also reduce the financial burden on tribal communities, making agriculture more sustainable,” he said.

The solar agri scheme will be rolled out across tribal-dominated regions of Telangana, with special focus on areas like Adilabad, Khammam, and Warangal. The program will provide access to both capital and technical support for farmers to implement solar-powered systems on their fields.

The project is expected to benefit over 2 lakh tribal farmers, offering them access to clean energy and modern agricultural technologies. Additionally, it is seen as a step toward reducing the state’s carbon footprint and promoting eco-friendly farming practices.
