Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to Visit UK and Austria to Strengthen Economic and Financial Ties

New Delhi – Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will undertake an official visit to the United Kingdom and Austria from April 8 to 13 to deepen bilateral economic cooperation and promote financial collaborations with key stakeholders, the Ministry of Finance announced on Monday.
During her visit, Sitharaman will participate in the 13th India-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD) in London on April 9, co-chaired with the UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer. The EFD serves as a high-level platform for discussions on investment, financial regulations, UPI interlinkages, taxation matters, and combating illicit financial flows.
Key focus areas include cooperation in the GIFT City IFSC, fintech innovation, digital economy, insurance, pensions, and sustainable climate finance.
On the sidelines of the dialogue, the Finance Minister will hold bilateral meetings with key British dignitaries and attend investor roundtables with top financial institutions, pension funds, insurance firms, and asset managers. She will also deliver a keynote address at the India-UK Investor Roundtable, co-hosted with UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds.
In Austria, Sitharaman is scheduled to meet senior Austrian leaders including Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer and Chancellor Christian Stocker. She will also co-chair a session with Austrian Minister for Economy, Energy and Tourism, Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer, alongside leading Austrian CEOs to explore investment opportunities in India.
The visit is expected to strengthen India’s economic diplomacy and foster long-term partnerships in strategic sectors across Europe.
